Leire Colomo - AMPO
"We are an ecosystem and we need to focus on society. It is important that the Basque language is strong socially"
As part of the Indeus interviews project, Leire Colomo, Director of Innovation and Technological Development at AMPO, has stepped in front of the INDEUS camera to answer our questions and reflect on the value of the Basque language in industry.
AMPO is a cooperative founded in 1964 that specializes in stainless steel and high-alloy cast iron components, as well as high technological value valves for the most demanding industrial applications.
"Currently in Idiazabal there are about 450 people, half foundry and machining and the other half valve and technical service. Until a few years ago the largest percentage was workshop personnel."
When asked how to promote the use of the Basque language in the industry, this is the reflection that Leire offered us "I believe that we are all an ecosystem, I think that on the one hand we have to work on society and that starts with education. The industry, in the end, is a mirror of society. What could the industry do? If I had to stagger, I think it is important that the Basque language is socially strong."
"In the industrial field, our being, our being Basque, marks a certain difference with other cultures and because we are Basque, our sacrifice, our belonging to the people or society differentiates us from other countries and that in many moments has a value in the industry."
