‘We produce the product of our research from working in Basque’

CEIT is a non-profit research centre, member of the BRTA network. Its main fields of action include Materials and Manufacturing, Transport and Energy, Information and Communication Technologies, and Water and Waste. One of the most important challenges of recent years is the digital and sustainable transition of the steel industry. We spoke to Amaia Iza, researcher and head of the Thermomechanical Processing group.

‘We develop models based on real industrial data. By this, I mean that we have a very close link with companies: we need their information to develop our models. Besides applied research, we conduct basic research to generate knowledge, maintaining numerous relationships with companies, institutions, technology centres and universities.’

The majority of the Thermomechanical Processing team headed by Amaia Iza is Basque speaker and their research work is carried out in Basque ‘Since most of our group members speak Basque, we conduct our daily research in this language, and the results of our work stem from using it. The solutions we have implemented worldwide in steel mills and steel transformation plants are largely the result of work and research carried out in Basque'.

Amaia Iza, as a member of the INDEUS platform, stresses that ‘the fact that so many Basque companies are in INDEUS also encourages us to act. Many of these companies are also part of our clientele, so if they are making progress in the linguistic field, so must we'.
