Iñigo Arrieta - EIKA

"We have to make a commitment in the socio-economic field, we have to show that it is possible to work in Basque, to live in Basque"

The EIKA cooperative was founded in 1973 in Etxebarria, in the Lea Artibai area. It is dedicated to offering electric cooking solutions to the market.

As part of the Indeus Elkarrizketak initiative, Iñigo Arrieta, president of the EIKA cooperative, told us about the company, its best-known product and its presence in the world: "Today we can say that our star product is the glass ceramic hob. If we were to open a glass ceramic hob anywhere in the world, we would have a 50% chance that the components are Eika products".

Regarding the use and dissemination of the Basque language, the president of Eika is clear about what the priorities should be: "What we have to do is to make a commitment in the socioeconomic sphere. We must also promote Basque in companies so that our young people can work in Basque. Most of them live in Basque, but then in companies we use Spanish. We have to show that it is possible to work in Basque, to live in Basque."
